Chilean Earthquake Tsunami potential in Three Countries

SANTIAGO - Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the quake measuring 8.3 on the Richter scale (SR) rocked the city of Santiago, Chile, Thursday (17/9), a potential tsunami. The agency released a tsunami could occur along the coast of Chile, Peru, and Hawaii.

The earthquake occurred at 07:54 local time caused a number of buildings in Santiago shook and many residents scrambling for cover.

US Geological Survey, told the Guardians, said the epicenter was about 46 kilometers west of Illapel, a city within a three hour drive from Santiago. Earthquake recorded a depth of 10 kilometers below sea level.

"The whole country was on holiday today, so the beach is filled with visitors. A moment later the glasses began to vibrate and children started screaming. The quake lasted about two minutes," said one of the correspondents the Guardians in Chile.

The Chilean government has not received reports of victims of this earthquake. However, photographs of the building with some damage has already been widely circulated.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile has evacuated all residents in hospitals and prisons in Constitucion, a town in the South of Santiago were also affected by the quake.
