Mali declared free of Ebola virus

The first Ebola case in Mali last occurred in October 2014.


Minister of Health Mali claims his country is now free of Ebola virus infection after 42 days no new cases arise.

"I announce today ... the end of the Ebola virus epidemic in Mali," said Minister of Health of Mali, Ousmane Kone.

"The outbreak is still ongoing and emergency situations is not over. Being unaware when it will only frustrate the progress that has been achieved, "said an official statement MSF.

The first Ebola case in Mali last surfaced in October 2014, when a boy two years of Guinea ill and died.

At its peak, there were 300 cases of Ebola that are under investigation in the country.

Ebola incubation period was 21 days. To be declared free of the virus, a country should not have any new cases in two successive incubation period, ie 42 days.
