The popular tourist attraction Azure Window has collapsed. The rock arch was in Djewra Bay on the island of Gozo, part of Malta. After days of heavy storm plunged the bow this morning in the sea. According to eyewitnesses, the colossus was gone within moments.

The rock formation of limestone showed some time large cracks and every year broke from larger pieces. Because collapse was forbidden to tourists since last year to run even on the arc.

The hole in the Azure Window was created through the centuries by the action of wind and seawater. According to the Prime Minister of Malta, several reports demonstrated in recent years that the rocks were to be affected by "unavoidable natural erosion."

The Azure Window was a popular destination among tourists. In addition, many people took a walk across the bridge formed by nature. The rock was increasingly used by 'cliff jumpers. On YouTube, many videos to find people who illegally dives off the cliff.
The rock formation has served in several films and series as a backdrop. For example, in the movie Clash of the Titans (1981) and The Count of Monte Cristo (2002). Also in the popular series Game of Thrones shows the arc during a wedding in the first episode of the first season.
The Government of Malta would not have been happy with how the crew had left the area. Because damage was during the filming occurred to the Azure Window and the area was Game of Thrones no longer welcome for other recordings.
