India's airline, Air India, plans to lay off 125 flight attendants and flight crew because it was considered too fat to work on the plane.

An Air India official told the BBC the decision was taken based guide body mass index (BMI) issued by the civil aviation agency last year.

He explained that Air India has issued a request that 600 crew members lose weight, but 125 of them failed to reach the required weight.

"The employees of this already we give 18 months to fulfill the ideal body mass index, but they failed. So we had no choice but to replace them," said an Air India official news agency Press Trust of India.
