A man who dropped his iPhone into a frozen lake during a fishing trip thought he’d lost the Apple device forever. But, when it was found a year later it still worked. Amazing. Michael Guntrum, of Knox in Pennsylvia lost his device in March 2015 while ice fishing in -25 degree temperatures. He told Buzzfeed that when he got a bite on his rod the iPhone slipped off his lap and skidded straight into the hole they were fishing in. In September the lake was drained due to structural issues in its dam. After the water was drained away, mechanical engineer Daniel Kalgren, also of Pennsylvania, was exploring the lake bed with his metal detector. Sure enough, Kalgren found Guntrum’s iPhone under six inches of mud, still in its OtterBox phone case. He took it home, cleaned it up and stuck it in some rice, then when it was dried out he put it on charge. And it worked! Kalgren was able to retrieve the owner’s number and contacted him to return it. Guntrum’s had a replacement phone for a while now, but he plans to give the newly-defrosted tough old iPhone 4 to his mum. | Metro News
