North Korean Kimchi is considered cultural heritage

The UN said it is considering the inclusion of kimchi, pickled cabbage-based, version of North Korea to the list of cultural heritage are not touched.



The move comes two years after South Korea's kimchi version is recognized as an intangible cultural heritage by weight Organization of Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO).

The UN agency confirmed that the North Korean kimchi has entered into nomination which will be decided at a meeting in Namibia next week.

"Koreans have shared their experiences to make delicious kimchi according to the season, while helping each other to provide the basic material and help prepare it," says UNESCO.

The BBC's Stephen Evans reports for Korean kimchi recognition of North Korea aligned with the South Korean kimchi is important to prevent the disruption of diplomatic relations.

So far, he added, does not appear hint that North Korean kimchi will be rejected as not intangible cultural heritage.

South Korean kimchi kimchi is usually more spicy than North Korea.
