Android-smartphone manufacturers are increasingly faced with patent trolls, who are trying to cash in on someone else's success, if not "strangle" the competitors. To insure a partner of unnecessary litigation, Google launched an initiative for the licensing of patents related to the Android operating system and preinstalled Google applications. It is named Android Networked Cross-License or abbreviated PAX, which translated from Latin means "peace."
Manufacturers of all countries, unite!
Cross-licensing agreement has been signed by Google, Samsung, LG, HTC, Foxconn, Coolpad, BQ, HMD Global and Allview. Members of the association have agreed on joint use of the patents, which currently has more than 230 thousand. To join the initiative can be any company, it is absolutely free. The main objective of the project - to create conditions for free competition and accelerated innovation.
By itself, PAX does not shield them from all patent disputes. Companies can sue because of the 4G LTE technology and other communications standards, and the Google initiative affects only software.
Where else to go?
Google is also promoting the project of the OPN Pledge , in which companies can transfer their patents in general use. The associations for the protection of a patent troll can be noted LOT Network and the Open Invention the Network , a non-profit organization Allied Security Trust promotes the interests of the participating companies in court and buys patents that will help win the job.
