Caffeine stimulates an enzyme that protects the brain from cognitive decline, reveal researchers at Indiana University.

Long decried for its exciting properties, coffee finally turns out to be good for our health . In recent years, the number of studies has increased, and it has tended to reveal all its benefits. In 2005, American researchers already said that drinking was the  main source of antioxidants , far ahead of fruits and vegetables . Coffee would also be beneficial to  people with Parkinson's disease , and would help them control their movements.

Today, Indiana University researchers tell us that coffee stimulates an enzyme that protects our neurons , with 24 compounds present in the beverage, including caffeine. Concretely, this enzyme,

Drinking two cups a day would have a neuroprotective effect, according to researchers. To confirm this beneficial effect of caffeine, they administered the beverage to genetically engineered mice to produce lower levels of NMNAT2. And finally, they found that these mice began to produce the same levels of this enzyme as normal mice.
