Swiss testing postal delivery with "Drone"

Tested drone models for delivery by the Swiss Post (Gizmodo)

Apparently not just an online retailer Amazon is interested in acquiring "services" drone as a delivery courier. Switzerland also has experimented with to do the same for postal delivery purposes.

Kompas Tekno summarized from The Guardian, Sunday (12/07/2015), the Swiss postal service last week showed the drone is being tested until the end of July. Such a device is quadcopter with four propellers. In the middle there is a yellow box bearing the official logo of Swiss Post.

"Drone is very light and can deliver the goods of one kilogram of up to ten kilometers on a single battery charge," said Swiss Post in a statement.

The drones fly fully automatically, follow the flight path predetermined by close based navigation software developed by Matternet, the US company which also acts as a drone maker owned Swiss Post.

Swiss postal service is now testing a variety of possible scenarios of use, including delivery of express packages and emergency aid for the affected areas. Drone can indeed be very useful for the country known as the area has a lot of mountains and remote villages.

However, the drones will still milling about in the Alps in the near future. "Before the drone can realistically be used within about five years into the future, there are many requirements that must be clarified," said Swiss WorldCargo, the company in collaboration with Swiss Post in this drone project.
