History Today | Aceh Tsunami



Did you know, December 26, 2004 was a historic day for the people of Aceh and Indonesia.


Aceh tsunami triggered by an earthquake measuring 9.3 on the Richter scale earthquake center was 3,3 degrees North latitude and 95, 98 east longitude. The quake affected by rising sea levels and eventually stretched as far as 1,200 kilometers, from Aceh to Andaman. The incident was snatched more than 230.000 people and 500.000 people homeless and field jobs.

Tsunami Aceh also attract international sympathy. Assistance from other countries such as Japan, Italy, the USA, the Netherlands, and Germany to Indonesia reached USD 760,8 million over. Up to 10 years after the disaster, Aceh slowly began to improve itself, although this disaster still save a lot of stories and trauma for the survivors.
