Scientists have created a bottle that will not let the guilt spill

The biophysicist, inventor and great wine lover Daniel Perlman of Brandeis University created a new wine bottle design, thanks to which drops of a valuable drink will not flow down the neck and leave stains on the tablecloth. This problem was faced by everyone who had to pour wine on glasses, and the solution was ingeniously simple.

What did he do?

The researcher noticed that because of the good wettability of the glass, the liquid stream bends to the outside of the neck, and when the bottle is returned to its vertical position, a few drops can spill onto the table or splatter clothes. To avoid this, Daniel Perlman proposes to make a small groove at the very edge of a width of 2 mm and a depth of about 1 mm. It will not allow the liquid to drain down. The biophysicist studied this question for three years. How much wine was drunk in the process - not reported.

Road to Innovation

The modern wine bottle looks the same as it was more than 200 years ago. Since the early 1800s, its design has not changed much, but Perlman believes that it's time to fix the main drawback of the old design. He is already negotiating with the manufacturers of glass bottles, but it is not yet known what they will lead to. On the inventor's account, more than a hundred patented developments, from specialized laboratory equipment to the first miniature home radon detector.
