VIDEO: A meteor crosses the American sky

In the night of Sunday to Monday, the Americans of Wisconsin and Illinois were able to observe a meteor clearing the sky. The enormous luminous ball would have landed right in Lake Michigan.

It's about 1:30 am this Monday when a huge green ball cracks the night sky in Illinois and Wisconsin. The passage of the meteor shakes the surrounding houses and impresses the Americans still awake. They are 220 to report the phenomenon to the AMS, the American meteor monitoring agency.

Impressive videos

Some even managed to film the crossing of the rock from space. Police officers equipped with dashcams, these cameras embedded in the cars, for example film the scene and post it on Facebook. Several impressed observers also shared videos of the event on social networks.

Through the videos and testimonials received, the organization was able to trace a potential meteor trajectory. After crossing the sky for nearly 1,300 km, the rock would have finished its course in Lake Michigan. Impossible, however, to know if it broke in the sky or if it ended at the bottom of the water.

Already 472 observations of meteors

If the event is impressive, it is not uncommon. The AMS has already recorded 472 meteor observations in the United States in 2015. And, according to NASA, 44 tons of meteorites would even crash on Earth each year.

But be reassured, these frequent falls are not necessarily dangerous. Because most meteors become dust, once in contact with the atmosphere. | ouest-france.fr
