In Japan, a patient transplanted farmed retina

In Japan, the approved holding of the first grown using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS-cells) in the world of transplants of retinal eye tissue from one person to another.



The experiment will be attended by experts from the Institute of Natural Sciences "Riken" universities of Kyoto and Osaka, and Kobe Medical Center.

The researchers plan to transplant retinal tissue grown using iPS-cells, a patient suffering from age-related macular degeneration. This disease affects the central part of the retina and can lead to vision loss.

As a donor will be the person with a particular type of immunity: its cells are able to take root in any organism, reports TASS. | rosbalt
