Hull City midfielder Ryan Mason ‘stable’ after suffering fractured skull in sickening clash of heads --- Hull City midfielder Ryan Mason is in a ‘stable condition’ after a sickening clash of heads with Gary Cahill has left the 25-year-old with a fractured skull. Mason, who required lengthy treatment in the first half at Stamford Bridge, was seen receiving oxygen before being placed in a neck brace while doctors of both teams attempted to treat the stricken Hull man. While Chelsea skipper Cahill was able to carry on playing, Mason was replaced by David Meyler in the 21st minute and rushed to St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington to undergo an emergency operation. The official Twitter account of Hull City sent out clarification to the fans confirming that the player had suffered a fractured skull. Speaking after the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea, Hull manager Marco Silva confirmed speculation that Mason had been rushed to hospital: ‘I imagine in this moment that he will stay in hospital. I hope nothing special, nothing serious, but we’ll see,’ he said. ‘I don’t know (if he is awake). He doctor told me he was in the hospital and we await news.’ After the game Chelsea defender Cahill was quick to offer his thoughts to Mason, wishing the midfielder well in his post-match interview: ‘I was just going to meet the cross but we clashed heads and it was a massive impact,’ he said. ‘I know he has gone off but am just hoping everything will be OK.’ Fellow Chelsea man Cesc Fabregas, who was a second half substitute in the fixture, echoed the words of his team-mate Cahill: ‘First, I and all the Chelsea players want to send our best wishes to Ryan Mason,’ the Spaniard said. St Mary’s Hospital is a major trauma centre that specialises in dealing with patients with serious conditions caused by sporting injuries. Mason was signed by the Tigers during the summer transfer window, arriving as part of a club-record £13million deal from Tottenham Hotspur. | Metro News
