A Muslim man has built an 85ft Christmas tree in Baghdad to show Christians they are welcome. Yassi Saad spent a whopping $24,000 (£19,000) on the festive tree because he wanted Iraq to put religious divisions behind it, which had been made worse by Isis. Christians have been fleeing the country partly due to the terrorist group targeting followers, with their population dropping from 1.5 million in 2003, to around 300,000 today. But now it’s the hoped the 33ft (10m) round artificial tree may help mend bridges after being erected in a theme park. ‘This tree represents love and peace,’ said teacher Saba Ismael, who visited the tree with students. She added: ‘I wish all Iraqi Christians could return to Iraq and live normal and peaceful lives.’ | Metro News
