Car company Volkswagen (VW) said it had disappointing consumers and regulators, after US officials accused the VW "outsmart" rules on emissions.

Officials at the US Protection Agency (EPA) ordered VW to attract half a million vehicles.

"I am personally very sorry that has damaged consumer confidence and the public," said the chief executive of VW, Martin Winterkorn, in a written statement issued on Sunday (09/20).

Winterkorn said it was working with the US Protection Agency to get the facts as quickly as possible.

Explained that VW has ordered an internal investigation and promised to cooperate with the regulator.

He also confirmed that the car companies should not allow the practice a violation of the law.

United States Environmental Protection Agency on Friday (18/09), said VW install special software on VW and Audi cars lethal control for the situation not at the time of testing, which means the actual pollutant levels 40 times higher than the permissible threshold of clean air.

EPA said that it happened in the last seven years and includes a model of the Audi A3, the VW Jetta, Beetle, Golf and Passat, the news agency Associated Press.

EPA asks VW repair the cars on VW's own expense. According to the AP VW may face a penalty of up to billions of dollars. (bbc)
