Loud blasts shook Bangkok

The explosion occurred at Erawan shrine in central Bangkok.

A large explosion terhadi at Erawan shrine in Chidlom district in downtown Bangkok, Thailand today (17/08).



Local TV stations reported five people were killed and 20 people were injured in the explosion.

BBC correspondent in Bangkok, Jonathan Head at the scene said the explosion occurred as a result of the huge mess and she saw pieces of human bodies scattered around the site.

Prawut Thavornsiri police chief was quoted by AFP news agency declared that the explosion was caused by a bomb.

"I can confirm it was a bomb, but we can not say what kind. We are still investigating," he said.
The explosion occurred at 7 pm local time.

Our correspondent says that this temple is a famous temple, located on the side of a five-star hotel.

Location explosion occurred at the Rajprasong intersection is the center of political demonstrations in recent years.

Bomb attacks like this are rare in the Thai capital.
