X Men Apocalypse First Look & New Details
The first official pics of X-Men: Apocalypse have arrived and they already have fans talking! Following its Comic Con debut this past weekend, the stars of X-Men: Apocalypse are gracing the latest cover of Entertainment Weekly and causing quite a stir. The cover gives our first official look at Olivia Munn as “Psylocke”, Oscar Isaac as title villain “Apocalypse” and Michael Fassbender as
“Magneto”. Though many fans are excited to see director Bryan Singer toss the black vinyl of the first trilogy and embrace costumes more in line with the comic books - particularly with Munn’s “Psylocke” - many fan’s first impressions with Isaac’s “Apocalypse” have been less than positive. The most common complaint is many think he looks more like “Ivan Ooze” from the Power Rangers than the hulking behemoth seen in the comics, but from what we know of the character so far, this iteration of Apocalypse will focus more on his mutant powers of persuasion and genius-level intellect than his superhuman strength. Plus, keep in mind that’s Golden Globe nominee Oscar Isaac behind all that blue paint so we’re pretty confident he’ll live up to the name “Apocalypse” come May 27th. Regarding “Apocalypse”, Isaac told EW that he is quote, “The creative-slash-destructive force of this earth. When things start to go awry, or when things seem like they’re not moving towards evolution, he destroys those civilizations.” In the film, Apocalypse awakens from his Egyptian tomb in 1983 and discovers a chaotic world full of conflict, war and destruction that he feels needs to be destroyed. He sets out to find four mutants to help him in his quest and become his Horsemen. He discovers Alexandra Shipp’s “Storm” living on the streets of Cairo, “Angel”, played by Ben Hardy, in Berlin making his way in an underground fight club, “Psylocke” working in Russia for the mutant-broker “Caliban” and Magneto attempting to live a normal life in Poland with a new love. As for some of the other characters, Jennifer Lawrence’s “Raven” is travelling the world helping oppressed and enslaved mutants, where she meets Kodi Smith-McPhee’s “Nightcrawler” which suggests they won’t be including their comic book connection in the film and James McAvoy’s “Professor Xavier” is running his busy school, but instead of teaching mutants how to fight, he’s teaching them how to work regular jobs. Of course, as McAvoy says, “this movie challenges all of that” and we predict combat training will soon be added to the curriculum.
