Singapore police shot dead a man near the summit

Singapore security authorities tightened security at the conference location, because the event was attended by a number of defense ministers from various countries, including US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter, who will appear as a speaker on Saturday.

Singapore police said they had shot dead one man and arrested two others near Hotel Shangri-La, the location of the conference which was attended by US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and level officials from different countries.


Police said the shooting incident happened when they stopped a four-wheeled vehicle at a checkpoint.

However, still according to police, the motorist was accelerated and rammed a police barricade after he was asked to open the trunk of his car.

Police said the incident was being investigated, and they believe that this case is closely related to the issue of drugs.

Officers opened fire because the motorist is "endangering the lives of officers", police said.
