"Anyone who has a body mass index below the level that a requirement should not be run on the catwalk or be a model," said one of the clauses in the legislation that passed the lower house of the French parliament.

The French government tried to pass this bill in 2008, but failed.

Earlier this month, the French Health Minister Marisol Touraine urged lawmakers to put the health of models and model, and not just beauty.

"Models have to eat well and maintain a healthy body," says Touraine. "This is an important message for young women who see the model as an example of aesthetics."

French Health Ministry data showed 40 thousand French people suffer from anorexia, and ninety percent of them are women. They make the model as an example of aesthetics, and refused to eat for fear of fat.

The bill officially passed into law through the ballot, with a majority vote in favor. Law also threatening anorexia websites which propagate with a fine of 10 thousand euros.
