Jokowi delay Budi Gunawan appointment as Chief of Police for going through the legal process.

Joko Widodo President at the State Palace on Friday (16/01) night announced the postponement of the appointment of the Commissioner-General Budi Gunawan as Chief of Police of the Republic of Indonesia.


"Due to the Police Commissioner Drs. Budi Gunawan, SH, are undergoing the process of law, then we consider it necessary to postpone the appointment as Chief of Police of the Republic of Indonesia. So, put off. Not to cancel the bottom line," said Jokowi.

In the same occasion, Jokowi also dismiss respectfully General Sutarman as Chief of Police. The post of the Chief of Police for the time being will be chaired by Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti who previously served as Deputy Chief of Police of the Republic of Indonesia.

Budi Gunawan previously named as a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission on Tuesday (01/13) for alleged bribery and gratuity when he served as an officer in the Police Headquarters. However, the House of Representatives remain fit and proper test run against his nomination as Chief of Police.

Commission III then decided to approve the appointment of Budi Gunawan as police chief passed through a plenary session Thursday, January 15th. This decision was then drawn criticism from many quarters.
