Earthquake in Switzerland, also warned in Varese

Earthquake in Switzerland at around 21:12 this evening, Monday, March 6. The epicenter was recorded in  Altdorf (capital of the canton of Uri) and Glarus , about 60 km from Zurich and the Italian border, with a quake of magnitude 4.4 Ricther scale. Ten movements was detected in the two hours after the main shock, the contained entities.

NO HARM NOTICES

At a distance of hours, there are no reports of damage to property and people: according to technical movements like the one which occurred at 21:12 may result in damage content.

The central regional civil protection operations has received reports from Varese but also from the provinces of Bergamo, Lecco, Como, Milan and Sondrio.

The operations room of Varese Fire Department has received reports from across the province. The shock in fact, was felt all over the Varese area, and in particular in border areas and in the area of Valceresio. Several reports from Arcisate, Clive and Viggiù, but also from Induno Olona and Bisuschio. Also in Porto Ceresio different people have clearly felt.

At the moment there are no damages to persons or property in Italy or in Switzerland. Around 23 was felt another tremor of low value.

The EPICENTRO OF EARTHQUAKE SHOCK 

The earthquake was of 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale and the towns closest to the epicenter is the city of Altdorf (capital of the canton of Uri) and Glarus, the capital of the canton in central Switzerland near the border with Liechtenstein.

This was revealed by the seismograph of the Center geophysicist Prealpino fixing the time of the quake at 21:12 and 06 seconds tonight, Monday, March 6. The epicenter precise geographic coordinates are latitude 46.92 and longitude 8.93 to 117 kilometers as the crow flies from Varese, about 60 km from the Italian border.

I HISTORICAL DATA

A rare earthquake for this region although in 2016 the land in Switzerland was shaken 31 times so least noticeable: the strongest quake occurred on October 24 last year in Leukerbad, Valais. According to the surveys dell'IVGN the last major earthquake dates back to 1855 when north of Locarno estimated the magnitude reached 6.4 degrees. The earth shook very even 100 years ago, when the magnitude was 6.1.
