Pinterest launches image search

Image: Pixel

Pinterest has developed a tool that allows you to point the mobile phone's camera to an object and search for similar articles in the platform's content base. In the background, it intends to do with objects what the Shazam application does with songs: instead of trying to search through words, it searches through images (or sounds, in the case of Shazam).

"Humans are visual creatures. We use our eyes to decide if something looks good or matches our style, "explains Evan Sharp, co-founder and head of Product at Pinterest on the platform blog. He also gives some examples of how the new tool, called Lens, can be used: from pointing to broccoli and finding recipes with this food to photograph a table and receive suggestions of similar furniture.

Lens is already available in beta in the United States for iOS and Android devices.
