Malaysia bus crash kills 14 after it plunges off the side of a cliff

FOURTEEN people have died and 17 are injured after a bus plunged off a cliff in Malaysia. Identities of the victims have not yet been released, but authorities say there were eight foreigners on board. Six Malaysians, six Singaporeans, two Myanmarese and one whose nationality was not verified died in the crash. One girl, eight women and six men are said to have died. Both the dead and the injured are said to have been taken to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar. Up to 25 fire and recuse officials from Muar, Bukit Gambit and Yong Peng stations were deployed after receiving the distress call at around 4am. It was travelling from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur on the North-South Expressway when it plunged over the edge at around 4am local time. Authorities do not yet know what caused the bus to crash, but initial investigations showed the road was in good condition. Roads are also said to have been dry when the bus with 30 people on board plunged into a six-metre-deep ravine. It was the worst accident involving buses in the country since the Genting Highlands bus crash that killed 37 people in 2013. In a number of road traffic accidents in the country, the drivers are said to be repeat offenders. | The Sun
