An armed man has killed at least 10 people and wounded seven others at a college campus in the state of Oregon, according to initial reports from the state police.
Shooting Thursday (1/10) occurred in Building Science Umpqua Community College in the city of Roseburg, Oregon.
Police said one suspect 26-year-old gunman was killed after a shootout with police. Some sources mention the name of the alleged shooter was Chris Harper-Mercer.
The entire area was then quarantined and people are encouraged to stay away from the campus which is located about 250 kilometers from the capital city of Oregon, Portland.
State police and city police, and detectives are investigating the case. But they have not mentioned the motive behind the attack. The medical staff immediately took care of the injured at the scene, according to CNN. A number of hospitals are also treated many wounded.
More than 3,000 students are enrolled at Umpqua Community College, according to the college's website. Approximately 58 percent of whom are women.
The average age of students is more than 30 years, higher than US campuses in general. And most of them are part-time students who are preparing to move jobs.
