Controversy Ghost Wedding Rituals in China

China - Police in eastern China arrested 11 people for robbing a tomb. The bodies of the women that they take then sold to the ritual "ghost marriage".

Ritual "ghost marriage" already exists in China since the 17th century BC. Now, there are only a few rural areas in Shaanxi Province, Shanxi, Henan, Hebei, and Guangdong are still practicing. The rituals performed by way of burying the corpse of a woman next to a bachelor who has just died. This was done so that the single is not lonely in the afterlife.

According to reports the South China Morning Post, the eleven suspects arrested by police in the thymus of China while digging the body of a woman from a village cemetery in Shandong Province in March. They sell the body with the price of 18 thousand yuan, or about 36 million dollars to an intermediary.

The main suspect named Wang stated that the selling price will be higher if the corpse was still fresh corpse. "The bodies are already annual worth nothing, while those who died, like this one, very valuable ... could be sold at a place with prices ranging from 16 thousand to 20 thousand yuan" Wang said, pointing to the bodies of women who dug three months after burial.

Once sold to intermediaries, the corpse of the woman then circulated on the black market. The bodies are moved from one city to another before finally sold for 38 thousand yuan (about 75 million) in the family of a deceased bachelor near Hebei Province. The suspects who were arrested would be punishable by up to three years in prison on charges of theft of the corpse.
