George Michael dies 'of heart failure' at his Oxfordshire home aged just 53 as heartbroken Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley pays tribute to 'my beloved friend Yog' and fans mourn legend's death *** The musician's publicist announced that he had 'passed away peacefully' at his home in Goring, Oxfordshire earlier this evening. The circumstances around the 53-year-old singer's death are unknown. Michael, who rose to fame in the eighties with Wham! before becoming a global solo star and selling 100 million records, had previously come close to death in 2011 after suffering from pneumonia and had also battled substance abuse. His friend Elton John led the celebrity tributes on social media, posting a heartfelt message with a photo of the pair on his Instagram page. He wrote: 'I am in deep shock. I have lost a beloved friend - the kindest, most generous soul and a brilliant artist. My heart goes out to his family and all of his fans.' @GeorgeMichael #RIP' Michael was last pictured eating in an Oxfordshire restaurant with friends.
