Shooter on campus in Oregon allegedly killed by suicide

Gunman at Umpqua Community College campus on Thursday (1/10), Chris Harper Mercer, was not killed by the police but suicide. It was announced by Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin, in a press conference on Saturday (3/10) local time.



"From a medical examination shooter unknown cause of death was due to suicide," said Hanlin, as quoted by Reuters.

Police earlier said the 26-year-old actor died after a shootout with police, who surged to the campus in Roseburg. According to Hanlin, from the results of the autopsy are known that Mercer died from suicide.

Chronology of events in the first hour of events, said Hanlin, is two Roseburg police arrived at the scene within five minutes and then exchanged gunfire in the next two minutes. Hanlin said the police managed to 'neutralize' Mercer.

"Officers responded immediately and gunfire and the shooters were neutralized at the time," said Sheriff. "But the more specific information, whether it is because the bullet or bullets from the officer's own weapon, we are not ready to discuss it at this time."

Sheriff Hanlin said, there is another pistol recovered from the apartment Mercer. A total of 14 firearms were seized from the hands of Mercer, six pieces of his home, and six brought to the campus.

The shooting occurred when Mercer was about to follow lectures taught English professor, who later became one of the dead of the nine who were killed in the shooting.
