Subaru XV, a completely redesigned sedan

NEW - At the end of the year, Subaru will market the new version of its crossover XV, developed from the modular platform borrowed from the Impreza.

It is no coincidence that Subaru chose the Geneva show to reveal the new generation of its XV crossover. Launched in 2012, this entry-level model ensures a good share of the Japanese brand's sales on the European market. His successor should not change the situation. Marketed in the autumn of this year, following the Frankfurt Motor Show, this vehicle was developed from the new modular platform "Global Platform Subaru" shared with the recent Impreza launched in the United States. Resolutely modern, this platform guarantees a torsional stiffness increased by 70%.

In the case of the XV, the wheelbase and length are extended by 1 cm, the tracks are enlarged and the height increases by 4 cm, for the benefit of the livability and the guard to the roof. The silhouette, always recognizable, evolves smoothly and we notice an elongated nose and carved flanks at the level of the door strikes. It also adopts roof bars that accentuate its status as a fighter. The new platform has mainly reduced the center of gravity by 5 mm and, in comparison with the current generation, guarantees a 40% greater absorption capacity in the event of an impact. The manufacturer announces a roll lowered by 50% compared to the model that it replaces. Unlike the latter, transmission is no longer a permanent four-wheel drive.

The XV acts as a front-wheel drive and the rear wheels become driven when the system detects a loss of grip. This solution has been preferred to reduce consumption and CO2 emissions. The "Symmetrical AWD" transmission is coupled to the X-Mode system which has a downhill speed assistant.

Considering the evolution of European demand, Subaru should ignore diesel. Initially, the crossover XV will be proposed only with a new evolution of the 2 liters atmospheric gasoline direct injection. This 4-cylinder has a power of 153 hp and a torque of 196 Nm. This block will be associated with the continuous variation box Lineatronic. Ultimately, the manufacturer could add the hybrid traction chain available only in North America and Japan on the old generation.

Subaru intends to position the crossover XV among the best in the class in terms of safety and driver assistance. This model will be equipped with EyeSight, Precision Braking Control and Lane Assist systems. The dashboard adds a new 8-inch touchscreen.
