Part of Fleet motorway service station has been destroyed in a massive fire, forcing the southbound carriageway of the M3 to close overnight. It started in a restaurant coffee machine, quickly spreading through the complex. Dramatic photographs show it lit up against the darkness as more than 100 firefighters battled through the night. The blaze is now under control, but the restaurant itself has been completely gutted. Many know the services simply as ‘the one with the bridge’ stretching across the carriageways (not thought to be affected by the fire). Everyone working and visiting the services is believed to have escaped safely and there are no reports of injuries. Police closed the south carriage of the motorway in Hampshire as smoke billowed up obscuring the road and flames threatened to spread. It has now reopened with just one lane out of use, but the whole services complex, including petrol station, will be out of action until at least lunchtime. Many who drove on the M3 and stopped there have been posting online about how upset they are to see their regular stop-off burnt beyond repair. | Metro News
