Too engrossed in Facebook, a mother neglect her child to death

A mother from Yorkshire, England, was sentenced to five years in prison after her child drowned in a pool while the mother is busy with Facebook.



Claire Barnett pleaded guilty to the demands of 'neglect' in the District Court of Hull.

Trial court 31-year-old mother on a busy error in Facebook to ignore her son, Joshua, two years old, playing in the garden behind their house.

The prosecutor said Barnett had previously been warned by family members to close the pool in the back yard.

Barnett has also been given a warning by the Social Service officers after her two children was almost hit by a car while playing unsupervised.

Joshua's accident occurred at their home in Yorkshire, March 17.

In the trial Barnett gave confusing statements to the police about what she was doing when the accident occurred, but investigators found she uploaded two photos on Facebook and received a call from her boyfriend rather than supervise their children play.

Joshua raised already unconscious from the pool and given first aid by her mother while waiting for the ambulance.

But the boy died in the hospital.

Prosecutor Peter Moulson said unknown how long Joshua splashed in the pool before being helped by her mother.
